‘Planted explosives’ threat at Scottish school as parents keep children at home Police are investigating threatening messages sent to Calderglen High School after an anonymous account claimed explosives had been planted. An investigation has been launched by police after anonymous threats claimed explosives were planted at a high school in Scotland. Threatening messages targeting Calderglen High School in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire, were posted on X on Monday night, reports the Daily Record. The account claimed explosives had been planted and tagged several pages associated with the school and surrounding council area. One message read: “I have planted it. I may not explode it today or I may wait. Time will tell, good luck surviving.” Police Scotland said officers are investigating what is believed to be a malicious communication sent to the school, as well as subsequent online messages. Specialist resources, including an explosives search dog, were deployed to search the area, but police said nothing of concern was discovered. Officers are continuing to maintain an increased presence nearby while enquiries are carried out to trace the person responsible. The threats prompted concern among parents, with some saying they planned to keep their children away from school. One told the Daily Record: “I’m keeping my son off. Not risking it.” Another said: “Are they not even going to send a statement out or acknowledge anyone's fear? Surely something has to be done/said. "My son won't be going in. Especially if they aren't going to acknowledge this, even if its a hoax.” Police have moved to reassure families following the messages, while enquiries continue to trace the person responsible. Chief Inspector Paul Doyle said: “We are investigating what is believed to be a malicious communication sent to a high school in East Kilbride on the morning of Monday, 7 September, 2026. “There has been subsequent online messaging regarding this, which is also being investigated. “I want to reassure the public, we’ve carried out thorough searches of the area with specialist resources, including an explosives search dog, and nothing of concern was discovered. Officers will continue to have an increased presence in the area and anyone with concerns can speak to them or call us on 101. “I want to be clear: making hoax threats is a criminal offence and we’re doing all we can to trace the person responsible.”
