At least 20 people have been injured, four of them seriously, after an Intercity train collided with a concrete mixer truck at a level crossing in Poland and derailed. The train, which was travelling from Lublin to Szczecin, struck the vehicle near the town of Przysucha at around 11.20am on Wednesday, according to local Polish media. Local police said those injured included the train driver and the driver of the concrete mixer, who became trapped inside the vehicle but was later freed with the help of firefighters. A fire service spokesperson said: “The locomotive is on its side on the opposite track and some of the wagons are also on their side.” Rail operator PKP Intercity said the ‘Koziołek’ service was made up of six carriages and a locomotive and was carrying around 120 passengers. Two air ambulances were among the emergency services deployed to the scene. PKP Intercity said all rail traffic on line 22 had been suspended following the crash. Mazowieckie Police said in a statement on X: “A collision occurred between a train travelling from Lublin Główny to Szczecin Główny and a heavy vehicle, a concrete mixer. As a result of the collision, six wagons and the locomotive derailed. “There are injured people. Medical assistance is being provided to several dozen people. Police and fire brigade are working at the scene.”
