Humaira Batool, 26, was today found guilty of causing the death by dangerous driving of Mohammed Shaan Hussain, 20, and told she can expect a lengthy prison sentence. Bartool was the driver when the £220,000 Lamborghini Urus SUV crashed in wet conditions on the M62, near Ripponden, West Yorkshire. But she told police that she had been asleep in the passenger seat - only waking to find the car rolling, Leeds Crown Court heard. Callous Batool then tried to blame her victim for the smash by telling jurors at her trial that Mr Hussain had been fiddling with the controls, which made the high-powered vehicle "surge". Judge Ray Singh warned her: "As you appreciate, this is a case where prison is inevitable, and it will be of some length. The fact that I have granted you bail, please don’t read anything in to that. Sentence that has to be imposed will be prison, it will simply be to how long." The trial heard the two friends were travelling in the hired Lamborghini Urus when it crashed between junctions 22 and 23 of the M62, in the early hours of December 21, 2022. Prosecutor Christopher Dunn told jurors the Lamborghini was driven by the defendant "at grossly excessive speeds of up to 143mph [230 km/h], in wet conditions on the M62 motorway." Jurors heard Hussain, also from Bradford, had rented the vehicle and planned to use it to collect a friend from HMP Leeds. Mr Hussain collected his friend Batool from her home at about 4am. CCTV footage showed Batool initially travelling in the passenger seat, before getting out at traffic lights, running around the vehicle and taking the driver's seat, with Mr Hussain moving across into the passenger seat. The car was travelling at about 120mph as it passed the "house in the middle of the motorway" landmark on the M62. Eight seconds later it had come to a standstill after leaving the carriageway, striking a barrier and overturning. Witnesses who had been overtaken by the Lamborghini stopped to help and heard Batool shouting for assistance. Attempts to reach the two occupants were thwarted by flames before a "very significant explosion". Batool was later found by a second group of witnesses on a grass verge near the motorway, while Hussain was trapped in the blazing wreckage. Batool told witnesses the flames had melted the seatbelt, enabling her to escape the vehicle. She suffered severe injuries, including burns to approximately 10 per cent of her body and a shattered tibia. She initially lied and claimed Mr Hussain had been driving, and then, in her evidence, said she crashed because he was messing with buttons which caused the car to speed up. Christopher Dunn, prosecuting, accused her of lying to "avoid the consequences of [her] guilty actions". Mr Dunn alleged Batool had been keen to see and drive the Lamborghini and was "putting it through its paces" on the night of the crash. He said: "The only thing that was making you go faster that night was your right foot". Batool was granted conditional bail until November 2, when she will be sentenced.
