Beefeater closing all 106 restaurants in the UK today — full list of locations It is the second restaurant chain to shut this week Pub restaurant chain Beefeater is closing every single one of its branches today. All 106 restaurants are closing, which comes just days after the loss of another chain. On Thursday, September 10, Beefeater is following Brewers Fayre in closing down. On Monday, September 7, all 89 Brewers Fayre restaurants shut. Around 30,000 staff are employed across the two restaurant chains. Earlier this year, it was confirmed they would both be closing as part of a broader strategy by the company Whitbread, which also operates the hotel chain Premier Inn. Whitbread chief executive Dominic Paul said at the time: "We plan to convert all our remaining branded restaurants to an integrated food and beverage offer that is preferred by our hotel guests and will unlock the addition of more highly profitable extension rooms. "Our continued efforts to drive our commercial plan and efficiencies will extend our market-leading position and allow us to take share from our competitors, many of which are struggling to grow." Some of the Beefeater and Brewers Fayre restaurants will be converted into around 600 additional Premier Inn hotel rooms. The remaining sites are "expected to be sold as going concerns". Speaking of the impact on its staff, Whitbread said: "We recognise the impact of this proposal on colleagues who work at the affected sites. "As a business which recruits around 15,000 people every year, we expect to be able to retain a significant proportion of those affected and will be looking to redeploy as many of our impacted colleagues as possible. "However, we do anticipate that the proposed changes, which are subject to consultation, would result in a reduction of around 3,800 roles of a total UK and Ireland workforce of around 30,000. We will do all we can to support those colleagues affected." Beefeater restaurants are all over the UK and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner meals. It also served Sunday roasts that started at £15.49 per person. The restaurant's loyalty scheme ended ahead of the closure of the chain. People have been reminiscing about the restaurant following the news as one said: "My favourite restaurant when I was little, the one in Bath specifically. But I haven’t been to one in years." Someone else added: "We've gone there for any family gathering in the last 30 years. It was like an automatic meeting spot if someone was coming back into town."
