While there had been suggestions that the pair had not spoken to each other directly since Prince Harry's return to the UK with Meghan Markle and their children, sources now claim this may not be true. While they may not have met in person, the King and his son are said to have spoken to each other on the phone. A royal insider told Woman's Day that the phone calls were happening "on a weekly basis" after the Sussexes returned to the UK following six years in California. These consisted of "pleasantries about the kids" as well as details about their schooling and Charles seeing his grandchildren. However the last call is said to have been "heated" following the King's letter outlining Harry and Meghan's status as "private citizens". The source told the publication: "Harry and Charles were in direct contact when they first arrived in the UK, but not anymore. "Now their communication is back to going through one of his advisors after the last call became somewhat heated." Following the Sussexes' response to the King's letter, the source said Charles will not be engaging with his son directly "until cooler heads prevail". The bitter back and forth started on Monday, when Charles' letter stated the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will remain "private citizens" despite their move to Britain, should not use their HRH styles, which are still in abeyance, and that they "do not represent the sovereign" while out making public appearances. In response, Harry and Meghan were said to be "surprised" at the public statement from the Palace and were caught off guard by the move which they thought did not allow enough time to clarify any points. A spokesperson said Harry and Meghan had just over an hour to see the King's letter before it was revealed to the media. The King is now allegedly frustrated by Harry and Meghan's oscillation. The source told Woman's Day. "He’s getting tired of the eternal fuss over every move Harry and Meghan make and it constantly impacting the entire Royal Family. "He can’t understand why Harry continues to push for conflict – he and Meghan see insults when there are none."
