Met Office names areas facing heavy rain on Sunday with 24 counties at risk Sunday morning is expected to bring heavy rain to some parts of the UK, despite Met Office forecasters predicting that temperatures will improve this weekend Heavy rain is expected to sweep across some parts of the UK on Sunday morning. It has been a miserable week of weather for the most part, with temperatures remaining in the low-20s across much of the country, and rain falling earlier in the week. Although temperatures are set to improve slightly this weekend, rising to 25C today, more rain is on the cards too. In this morning’s Met Office video forecast, meteorologist Alex Deakin explained some heavy spells of rain could move across southern and central parts of the UK in the early hours of Sunday morning. “We could see some further heavier pulses coming in, particularly across parts of Wales, then into the Midlands and across southern England, as we go through the night [into Sunday morning],” he said. “With more cloud and the rain, and still the warm air tucked in, it will be a much milder night across the south compared to the one just gone - so a warmer start, but it will be a wetter start if you’re up early on Sunday morning.” Thankfully, the heavy rain is expected to clear throughout the day. Most areas should be bright and dry by the afternoon. Mr Deakin continued: “We’re not exactly sure on the timing of when that rain will clear on Sunday but it certainly could be a wet start, so some useful rain in parts of the south through the first part of Sunday. “The heavier pulses of rain should clear through and it’s likely to stay pretty drab across the southernmost counties of England [as we head into the afternoon] with a little bit of rain and drizzle. “Elsewhere, a much brighter day generally. Some good spells of sunshine, especially for parts of north-east England. And the winds will be a lot lighter as well.” The Met Office predicts afternoon highs of 22C in the south-east and western England on Sunday afternoon, with 21C coming in the Midlands and the south coast, 18C in Edinburgh, and 17C in Northern Ireland. In total, the Met Office maps suggest 24 counties could facing heavy rain on Sunday morning. They are all in England or Wales. It says: “Tomorrow morning will be cloudy with lingering spells of rain. During the afternoon, some sunny breaks are expected to appear, however spots of rain still cannot be ruled out.” However Monday should be mostly dry. The BBC Weather forecast adds: “Monday will be breezy and cloudy with a chance of a spot of rain, though it should be mostly dry with late sunshine later on. A few light showers on Tuesday morning but it will soon turn mostly sunny and dry with some patchy cloud at times.”
