The collision took place shortly after 11pm yesterday on the northbound carriageway near junction 41 near Wakefield. Police said the blue Kia Proceed was driven the wrong way up the motorway after failing to stop, colliding with a red Dacia Sandero. The driver of the Dacia, a man in his 20s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are being treated as potentially life changing, West Yorkshire Police said. The force explained that one person left the scene, while three other passengers suffered minor injuries. Three arrests have so far been made, including a man aged 18, a girl aged 15 and a 30-year-old woman. They have all been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and remain in custody. The 30 year old woman was further arrested for being over the prescribed limit, the police said. Anyone holding information about this incident is asked to contact the police. Yesterday morning, two police officers and one man were taken to hospital after a crash between a police car and a van in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.
