Garcia wants Lopez next; what about Shakur, Haney and 'Tank'?

Ryan Garcia said he's ready to sort out boxing's welterweight division. And boxing fans are in for a very fun chapter of fights, if he gets what he wants. Garcia (26-2, 21 KOs) is on top of the sport following his second-round knockout of Conor Benn (25-2, 14 KOs) on Saturday at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The 28-year-old WBC welterweight champion has always had a knack for captivating audiences. Through two fights in 2026, his maturity and performances seem to be in line with his fame. As does his ambition. Garcia has already secured some of the biggest fights available to him, namely Gervonta "Tank" Davis in 2023 and Devin Haney in 2024. He has said he wants rematches against both, as well as a welterweight unification bout against WBA champion Teofimo Lopez Jr.. "I think he's weak in his defense," Garcia said of Lopez during a postfight interview. "I think that people kind of overrate his defense. I think that he's much easier to hit than people think he is. And I think that I will knock him out. I think that my punch is heavy and once I crack him, I think that he'll stumble and I'll get him out of there. Now, I'm not going to say it's going to be the easiest fight, but I know I'll get him out of there." Following Garcia's victory over Benn on Saturday, here's a list of potential opponents and what Garcia and his father/trainer Henry Garcia have to say about the potential matchups. Teofimo Lopez (23-2, 13 KOs), WBA welterweight champion Lopez, 29, moved up in weight late last month and claimed the WBA title by majority decision over Rolando "Rolly" Romero. It was an impressive bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to Shakur Stevenson in January, which cost Lopez his WBO junior welterweight title. Lopez remains the only member of the original self-named "New Four Kings" who Garcia has not yet fought. Lopez showed up at the prefight news conference in disguise and appears to be a good bet as Garcia's next opponent. Ryan: I think he's interested in the fight, so I don't think it's going to be too hard. I think that's the easiest road, getting that fight done. He's with DAZN, and that just makes it a very easy fight to be made. That is one of the easier ones to get made. Devin Haney (33-0, 15 KOs), WBO welterweight champion This is arguably the biggest fight to make for Garcia, given the circumstances around their first fight in April 2024. Garcia shocked Haney in a majority decision win -- scoring three knockdowns in the process -- but the bout was later changed to a no-contest after Garcia tested positive for ostarine. Haney, 27, rebuilt himself following the initial outcome and claimed the WBO title by defeating Brian Norman Jr. by unanimous decision in November. Ryan: I mean, his dad's got to grow a little more balls and get over his PTSD [from the first fight]. Devin's going through a hard time right now, rest in peace to his mom [who died in August]. I think they have a lot of things to process. I don't think it'll happen in the next seven, eight months to be real. But once I fight Teofimo, then there is that fight to build up. We've just got to wait and see what Devin is willing to do at this point. Gervonta "Tank" Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), WBA lightweight champion in recess Davis handed Garcia his first professional loss by seventh-round knockout in April 2023. The 136-pound catchweight fight did 1.2 million pay-per-view buys and more than $22 million in ticket sales. A rematch would almost certainly be bigger. In that fight, a rehydration clause forbade the bigger Garcia from weighing more than 146 pounds on fight night. A three-division world champion, Davis hasn't fought since his majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. on March 1, 2025. The 31-year-old has dealt with numerous legal issues, including a 2020 conviction in a hit-and-run case and an active case in Florida involving charges of kidnapping and misdemeanor battery. Davis has pleaded not guilty. Ryan: He needs to get back into the ring. I mean, he hasn't fought in a long time. I don't know what's holding him back. I feel like the only way to move forward is to move forward. So, I think he has to make his move. The worst thing you can do in life is stay stagnant. I don't know, man. I have no idea what's going on with Tank. Nobody really does. I wish him to get back in the game. He's a really huge player who adds to boxing and makes the sport more fun, so I would love to see him back. Henry: First of all, Tank would have to accept a fight on our conditions. He would need to come to us, because we're not going to be giving away any [weight] advantages anymore, as we have previously. So there's your answer. We'd need to have the fight on our terms now, because we're the ones on top. That's just that. Shakur Stevenson (25-0, 11 KOs), WBO junior welterweight champion Both Garcia and Stevenson have expressed interest in fighting each other -- but it comes down to an agreement on the terms. Stevenson, 29, has shown a willingness to move up in weight, winning titles at 126, 130, 135 and 140 pounds. Stevenson won the WBO junior welterweight belt with a unanimous decision over Lopez in January. Stevenson doesn't have a fight scheduled, and signed with Zuffa Boxing in July. His current outlook for opponents in the near future include Garcia, Haney, Davis and WBC junior welterweight champion Dalton Smith. Ryan: He needs to gain weight. I think everybody always likes to look for advantages when fighting me. I've done all the sacrifices. I'm actually the only one that's fought two of the supposedly "main dogs" in the sport in Tank and Devin Haney. I don't see anybody else doing anything that is showing they are willing to take the chance, other than me. They're going to have to make their moves, come to 147 [pounds], and let's get it on, give the fans what they want. I'm always here to accept it. Henry: I'm going to say the same thing I said about Tank. You have to come to us. We're not going to go down to a 144-pound [catchweight]. We're not going to do that. We don't have to. We're good where we are. You want it? Come to 147. Ryan will not relent and go down just to make the fight happen. Ryan is comfortable where he is and he knows what he has to do. He knows that 147 is his weight class and he's going to be on this for a while.
