Met Office names areas facing heavy rain on Monday with 14 counties at risk Met Office weather forecasters say Monday will bring bright spells and potential 26C highs for some areas, while others could face spells of heavy rain Heavy rain is expected in some parts of the UK on Monday, while other regions should see bright and pleasant conditions. Met Office forecasters say southern regions could see potential highs of 26C in the sunshine, but conditions further north are expected to be rather miserable. Speaking in this morning’s Met Office video forecast, meteorologist Kathryn Chalk explained that it will be a humid start to the week, with overnight temperatures set to remain in the mid to high teens. However, rain looks set to sweep across Northern Ireland and Scotland as we head into Monday afternoon. These showers could turn heavy at times. Ms Chalk said: “A warm and humid start to Monday, we’ve got cloud and outbreaks of rain arriving across the north-west of Scotland, and later on in the afternoon is when we’ll see some heavier spells of rain arriving into Northern Ireland. “Elsewhere the cloud will break. We will see some sunnier spells developing - especially across northern England and into the Midlands, the far south and west. “Temperatures will be rising in that sunshine. It’s still going to be feeling warm with highs possibly up to 25-26C. It will be cooler where we have the outbreaks of rain across the far north and west.” The Met Office maps show heavy rain could hit 14 counties in total. They are all in Northern Ireland or Scotland. It states: “Tomorrow, the north-west will be cloudy and breezy with showery rain continuing to move in, heavy in places. Elsewhere, variable cloud cover, sunny spells and a few showers in spots.” It adds for the rest of the week: “Rain will push across the south early on Tuesday, before clearing away. Behind this, sunny spells, but also some showers in the north-west. “Sunny spells and the odd shower on Wednesday, but turning windy and wet in the north-west later on. Rain will spread south-eastwards overnight and into Thursday, clearing to leave sunny spells but also blustery showers for the north-west.”
