X Files star Gillian Anderson says she's pansexual and reveals relationships with women The actress, 58, explained that appearing on Netflix's Sex Education was a turning point for her. Actress Gillian Anderson has opened up about her sexuality, saying she is pansexual. The star, used the term 'pan' about herself in a new interview - describing an attraction to people of all genders. In an interview with The Australian the 58-year-old said that "in my younger years I was in relationships with women" but is now in one with a man. The former X Files star explained that her attitude had become more sex positive since appearing on Netflix's Sex Education as Jean Milburn, where she plays a well-known sex therapist and mother of the main character, Otis. She said: "It all came from that character." Anderson has been married twice, first to Canadian TV art director Clyde Klotz and then to filmmaker and foreign correspondent Julian Ozanne. She has daughter Piper, 31, with Klotz and sons Oscar, 19, and Felix, 17, with businessman ex Mark Griffiths. The star is thought to be an a relationship with The Crown creator Peter Morgan but has never confirmed it. The told the paper: "I'm not a big flirter. I don't put it out there very much. I do hear of a lot of women around our age who are rediscovering their sensuality and their desire for sex. "It certainly sounds like they're in the dating field. That they're having a lot of fun, a lot of opportunities, but also being approached on these apps by much younger men." Gillian's new book More: Sexual Fantasies by Anonymous, a follow-up to her 2024 Want, features intimate letters submitted by woman from around the world and comes out next week. She said: “I’m incredibly honoured to be at the other end of such vulnerability and trust. I’m so grateful for the courage and honesty, and just the beautiful, beautiful writing. It feels like a real honour to be entrusted with these pieces.” Last month Gillian spoke about being voted the Sexiest Woman in the World by readers of FHM in the mid-Nineties, around the time the X Files was at the peak of its powers, but said she felt "anything but". She told Vogue: 'In 1996 I was voted 'Sexiest Woman in the World' by FHM readers – a title that arrived with all the certainty of a cultural verdict. 'How 'sexy' I felt inside – or indeed looked – when the accolade was announced is another story... The ludicrous irony, of course, is that when the 'world' declared me its sexiest woman, I felt anything but.'
