Major update as one-year-old baby dies in Warwickshire and two people arrested A 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were both arrested following the death of a one-year-old girl in Atherstone, Warwickshire, on Friday Police have issued an update following the death of a one-year-old girl in Atherstone, Warwickshire. Officers were called to Long Street at around 11.50am on Friday following reports of a child in cardiac arrest at a home. She sadly died despite the best efforts of medics. A 19-year-old woman and 21-year-old man were both arrested at the scene on suspicion of child neglect. They were both later further arrested on suspicion of causing or allowing the death of a child. In an update today, Warwickshire Police said the pair have been bailed while enquiries continue. Detective Chief Inspector Martyn Kendall from the Major Investigation Unit said: “This tragic death has understandably caused a great deal of shock and concern in the local community. “The two suspects arrested have now been bailed with strict conditions. We are waiting for a post mortem which will help us shed more light on the circumstances leading up to her death. “In the meantime, our detectives are working around the clock to gather evidence and I’d urge anyone with information that could help with our enquiries to get in touch.” Anyone with information can get in touch via the Warwickshire Police website or by calling 101, quoting incident 161 of 11 September 2026.
