Donald Trump takes aim at Zelensky and calls for Ukraine to STOP strikes on Russia Donald Trump today urged Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop strikes on diesel fuel in Russia Donald Trump has called on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to halt strikes on Russian diesel, saying attacks are causing a shortage. Trump was today asked by a reporter if he had spoken with Zelensky following his recent conversation with Russia's Vladimir Putin. Trump responded by calling on Zelensky to halt strikes against Russia. "Mr. Zelensky has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia," Trump told reporters on the sidelines of the Irish Open, which is being played at his Doonbeg club. "Let him go after targets but not diesel fuel, because he's causing a shortage of diesel fuel." Trump also said he “loved” the backlash to his comments in support of Irish unification. On Saturday, he said he “would love to see” Ireland unified, adding: “It’s going to happen eventually.” When asked about the diplomatic row sparked by his comments today, Trump said: “I loved them.” And further asked about the backlash to his intervention, he added: “I love my comments.” He did not appear to comment further when asked about a timeline for Irish unity or a separate question on Scottish independence. Trump also said it was “great” to be in Doonbeg and added: “I love Irish people.” Taoiseach Micheál Martin and some other senior Irish Government figures also attended the final day of play at the Irish Open, hosted at Trump’s Doonbeg course. Trump is expected to hand over the winner’s trophy before flying back to the US at the end of a two-day itinerary. A major security operation is continuing for the visit, with Ireland’s police service An Garda Síochána liaising with the Defence Forces and US Secret Service in the area around the resort. Trump’s presence sparked protests in Dublin and Clare – but Garda Commissioner Justin Kelly said there would be “no tolerance” for public disorder or attempts to impact “critical movements” of the US president.
