Barnsley 'murder' probe as man in his 50s dies after 'altercation' at hotel A man has died following an altercation at The Star Hotel in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, and a murder probe is now underway A murder investigation has been launched after a man died following an altercation at a hotel. The victim, a man in his 50s, was allegedly assaulted by another man during the incident at The Star Hotel on Barnsely Road, Barnsley, in South Yorkshire. When emergency services arrived at the hotel just before 11.30pm on Friday, they found the victim seriously injured. The man was taken to hospital but, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he was pronounced dead. His family are aware and are being supported by officers. South Yorkshire Police has now confirmed a murder investigation has been launched. The force said a 34-year-old man was arrested yesterday morning on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody. Detective Inspector Laura Procter, from the Major Crime Team, said: "This was a devastating incident that has left a man dead. Our officers worked at pace to identify and arrest a suspect and we do not believe that any others were involved. "As our investigation continues, I would ask that anyone with information that could help with enquiries please gets in touch."
