Boris Johnson evacuated after train drone strike in Ukraine Former UK prime minister Boris Johnson had to be evacuated from a train close to the Ukraine-Poland border following a drone strike which hit the tracks A train carrying Boris Johnson was evacuated after a drone attack which hit tracks in Ukraine. The former UK prime minister was heading back from a security conference in Kyiv on a "special train" in the early hours of this morning when there was a warning of drone strikes by the Polish border. Passengers on the train including Johnson were awoken at around 5am and temporarily evacuated due to the imminent danger before being allowed to carry on. Former Swedish premier and foreign minister Carl Bildt, who was on the same train as Johnson, said the train immediately after theirs was hit by the drone. He told how they were told to evacuate before managing to escape across the border to NATO territory in Poland. “This wasn’t our train [that was hit], but the one just minutes after us by the [Polish] border crossing,” said Bildt. “It was evacuated as the [Russian] drone approached and no one was hurt. Very good safety system. "Our train just had an evacuation warning but could proceed to Dorohusk. The [Russian] attacks against [Ukraine] are intensifying.” Dorohusk is on the Polish side of the border at Yahodyn which Russia was attacking. There were understood to have been 206 passengers on board the train but no one was injured confirmed the Ukrainian railway authorities. Among those travelling on the special train was Günter Sautter, foreign and security policy adviser to German Chancellor Friedrich Merz. Images show huge flames coming from a drone strike nearby on a road where where a vehicle was on fire and other photos show a damaged train. A Russian drone hit a petrol station in Yahodyn, just a few hundred metres from the Poland border, said Ukrainian authorities said with such attacks becoming more common to disrupt the infrastructure of the country and supply of fuel. It has led to mesh cages being installed around some of the facilities in Kyiv. It was described by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha as "barbaric" who added that it showed how Vladimir Putin's "terror" was "knocking" on the door of the EU and NATO. He wrote on X: “Russia’s barbaric strikes at the Ukraine-Poland border crossing point in Yahodyn are not just a continuation of its attacks on our state borders. This is Putin’s terror ‘knocking’ directly on the doors of the EU and NATO."
