Boy, 16, dies in horror crash as car hits tree with teen driver arrested Police are appealing for witnesses after a Volkswagen Polo crashed into a tree on the A4104 in Worcestershire killing a 16-year-old passenger with the driver arrested A 16-year-old passenger has tragically died after a car crashed into a tree, with the teenage driver arrested. The boy who died was in a blue Volkswagen Polo which was travelling along the A4104 in Worcestershire on Saturday night when the accident happened. The vehicle, which was heading in the direction of Dunstall, collided with a tree between the carriageway and the slip road to Bourne Road at around 9.20pm. West Mercia Police said the teen had suffered "significant injuries" and was pronounced dead at the scene, while two other passengers, aged 16 and 17, suffered minor injuries. An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving in excess of drink and drugs. He has since been interviewed and bailed as enquiries continue, reported BirminghamLive. The force is appealing for witnesses to get in touch. Detective Sergeant Rose Hughes from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Firstly, our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the boy who tragically lost his life yesterday. "They are being supported by specialist officers and will be kept informed throughout the investigation process. We are now appealing for witnesses who may have seen the collision, or the vehicle travelling prior to the incident taking place. “If you have any information or dashcam footage which may help us piece together the moments leading up to the collision, please get in contact with us.” Information can be passed on to the team via email at [email protected] or by calling 101. The statement from the police read: "Police are appealing for witnesses after a teenager died during a single-vehicle collision near Defford last night (Saturday 12 September). "A blue Volkswagen Polo was travelling along the A4104 from Defford and in the direction of Dunstall around 9.20pm. The vehicle then collided with a tree between the carriageway and the slip road to Bourne Road. "Sadly, a passenger of the car – a boy aged 16 – suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other passengers, aged 16 and 17, were in the vehicle and suffered minor injuries. "An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving in excess of drink and drugs. He has since been interviewed and bailed as our enquiries continue."
