Two 25-year-olds died during this weekend's Great North Run, organisers have confirmed.
Two men collapsed and died at the event, which saw 63,000 runners tackle the 13.1 mile route, The Great Run Company said.
In a statement the group said: "It is with deep sadness that The Great Run Company can confirm the death of two participants at yesterday’s Great North Run.
"The two runners, both 25 year old males from the North East, collapsed at the event, and despite the very best efforts of our medical teams later passed away. In each case the cause of death will be determined in due course."
