Conditions are poised to get warmer once more in just 10 days, with temperatures potentially hitting 27C across several regions. This is significantly greater than the average temperature for September. Although the hottest weather is anticipated on September 24, it should be warm enough for several days to meet the official heatwave criteria in multiple areas. This would then become the sixth heatwave the UK will have experienced this year. The map above is taken using the forecast for September 24 when the mercury across southern and central England could rise to 27C. Along the south coast, temperatures could surge to 26C from Brighton through to Portsmouth, while Cornwall will remain cooler at approximately 21C. Temperatures are forecast to reach around 21C as far north as Cumbria. Wales may enjoy some relief with temperatures hovering around 22-23C, while Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to see highs in the late teens. However, the Met Office's long-range forecast for September 19-28 presents a different picture to WXCharts. It indicated conditions are set to stay unsettled, with intermittent rain or showers pushing in from the North Atlantic, occurring most frequently across northern and western regions of the UK, with strong winds expected at times, reports the Express. It continued: "There will also be some reasonably dry and more settled periods in between these systems, especially across southern areas. "There is a chance settled weather may expand further northwards during the final week of September. Temperatures for the period as a whole will probably be close to average overall, but there is scope for some rather warm days at times, as well as relatively cool nights which may bring the occasional grass frost."
