From litter pickers and eco champions to fundraisers, young leaders and community-minded pupils, the scheme celebrates the kindness, courage and everyday heroism happening within our schools. This free initiative gives pupils and their teachers the chance to recognise children for those qualities that extend far beyond academic achievement. Sometimes even the smallest act – a kind smile, a helping hand, a charitable project – can have the biggest impact and make a school a happier place. This should not go unnoticed – and Pride of the Playground aims to change that. Every school is unique and can pick its own award categories. These include Spirit of Friendship, Fundraiser of the Year, Community Spirit Award, Young Leader, Eco Champion, Outstanding Bravery, Pride of Year and the Pride of the Playground Award. This is not just about awards. Pride of Britain with P&O Cruises host Carol Vorderman says: “At a time when children are often confronted by negativity and unkindness online, Pride of the Playground aims to encourage them to look for kindness instead. “Pride of the Playground is about helping a generation to celebrate goodness. I really hope you get your school involved.” Schools can download a free toolkit containing award categories, nomination forms, judging guidance, certificates and assembly materials, allowing them to run their own Pride of the Playground celebration. Suggested dates are included to help schools join the wider cultural moment around Pride of Britain airing on ITV in October, but schools can also choose a timeline that works best for them and their pupils.
