Boy, 15, plunges 25ft from swing with air ambulance and rescue teams scrambled Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team rushed to the scene after a 15-year-old boy came off a 25ft swing and plunged down a steep bank A 15-year-old boy fell 25ft from a swing down a steep bank sparking a major emergency response including an air ambulance. Rossendale and Pendle Mountain Rescue Team in Lancashire rushed to the scene along with North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) to help rescue the boy from difficult terrain in the Peak District. On arrival, the mountain rescue team set up a rope rescue system to get a member down to the teen with a stretcher. Paramedics then worked to stabilise him before he was moved to the top of the bank for further treatment and rushed to hospital. An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene, but following an assessment it was decided the boy would travel by land ambulance to Manchester for specialist care. RPMRT said: "Medics and a team paramedic assisted our colleagues at NWAS to help stabilise and get the yound man topside to further care. Although a simple process from our perspective it was a great example of a simple plan well executed as we were very mindful the young man had a serious fall from height. "Colleagues from North West Air Ambulance Charity were called to assist also but after assessment it was decided he was to travel via land ambulance to Manchester for specialist care. We wish the young man a speedy recovery." The incident was one of three callouts for the rescue team over the past week. At around 2.50am on Saturday, they were alerted by Lancashire Police after three 16-year-old boys were reportedly lost on Pendle Hill. Around 13 members attended a meeting point at Barley Car Park to meet officers, but two of the boys had already been found. The third was found safe at home shortly afterwards. The team was also called out after a 58-year-old reportedly slipped down a steep banking, but members were stood down by NWAS shortly afterwards. RPMRT said: “It’s amazing how there’s never a pattern to our callouts. One minute it’s quiet and the next it’s madness. Nonetheless we’re always ready no matter when or what the job entails.”
