Heartache for family of Brit toddler killed in Lanzarote car crash as coroner gives update Four-month-old Harper Louise Ayton, from South Shields, died when a driver mounted the pavement and ploughed into pedestrians on the Spanish island of Lanzarote The family of a British baby who was killed by a car in Lanzarote are still waiting for answers two and half years later with a coroner saying he is waiting for information from authorities in Spain. Four-month-old Harper Louise Ayton, from South Shields, died when a driver mounted the pavement and ploughed into people on the Spanish island on March 11, 2024. Today a brief inquest hearing was heard before Senior Coroner Jeremy Chipperfield at Crook Coroners' Court. The hearing was told that, despite the horror crash happening more than two-and-a-half years ago, the coroner is still awaiting details from the Spanish authorities. It was told that the Home Office and Foreign Office have been notified of the wait. Mr Chipperfield said it was "very tough" for Harper's family that they still did not have closure. Mr Chipperfield said: "I am conscious it is two-and-a-half years since Harper's death and it is very tough for the family to not achieve this level of closure." The inquest was adjourned until Tuesday, November 17. Harper was killed in a collision which also injured parents Alex Chadkirk, 28 and TImothy Ayton, 40. Alex's parents Andrea and Derek Chadkirk were hurt alongside two people from Sweden. The crash took place at the Playa Bianca resort, with The Mirror previously reporting how a Ford Fiesta had mounted the pavement and crashed into a number of people. Harper died at the scene despite the efforts of paramedics to revive her. An expat resident on the island, appeared in court in Arrecife in 2024 following the crash but was unable to give evidence after suffering an anxiety attack.
