Since quitting his royal role in 2020 to seek financial and personal freedom from the Firm, Harry has been fronting the bill for his own personal security team, after his taxpayer-funded protection was removed once he ceased to be a working member of the Royal Family. Now, with the Sussexes once again living in the UK, Harry’s fight for security is still raging on, as he continues to make appeals to the Home Office. Harry’s security concerns have now branched to Archie and Lilibet’s school, as the children were removed from their new school just two days into the year due to security concerns. It is understood that unexpected heavy traffic on the route from where they were living to the school meant a 30-minute journey turned into an hour’s journey at rush hour. And sources close to the couple claimed that sitting in traffic heightened their security fears as it left them as “sitting ducks”. According to Hello!, the Sussexes’ bodyguards were not able to carry out a recce of the journey in term time, and only practised it during the quieter summer holidays. One incident is said to have raised concerns when the couple and their security’s vehicles found it difficult to remain in convoy. A family spokesman told the magazine: “The decision for the children to move school was taken following a discussion with the family’s security team about the practicalities of their current arrangements. “The parents remain extremely grateful to all the teachers and staff for the love, care and effort they have shown their family. This decision should in no way be interpreted as a reflection on the school or the exceptional care the children have received there.” The children will now attend a different school in the same area. The news of their change in schools comes just days after it emerged that Harry has succeeded in forcing the Home Office to open a new review into his right to taxpayer-funded security. As the Mirror revealed last month, the government department will now carry out a new Risk Management Board hearing at his request, after months of appeals from the Duke of Sussex. It is understood the new review will look at the risks and threats to both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. Harry has previously lost a case at the High Court and a subsequent hearing at the Court of Appeal, before he wrote directly to Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood asking for a renewed assessment of his security situation. Home Office sources say Harry has been in constant contact with the department in recent months, describing his correspondence as "incessant". Following the Mirror ’s exclusive story, a spokesperson for the Sussexes told The Telegraph that the committee had been “kicking the can down the road for the last seven years”. They added: “We have always adhered to the rules they set, even as the goalposts have moved along the way,” they said. “Playing by those rules has never made any difference. “Despite the façade of a proper process, they have never shown any real intention of doing anything other than maintaining the status quo. The couple’s decision not to live in the UK was treated as a significant factor in that decision. “That barrier has now been removed, and an obvious off-ramp exists for the committee to do the sensible thing: protect the King’s son and grandchildren.”
