The Met Office, which has issued the maps, says the cloud will thicken and temperatures will be below average for the time of year. It will be a stark contrast to the sunny start to the week, during which the mercury hit 27C in Exeter, Devon, on Monday. It was also a sunny start to the week for most, with 6.7 hours of sunshine recorded in part of Flintshire, north Wales. But nearly 30 areas will see rainfall on Wednesday, forecasters believe. By 7pm, the rainfall appears to be focused over Scotland, with Perth and Kinross, the Highlands, Stirling and Lanarkshire all braced to bear the worst of the miserable conditions. In Northern Ireland, Down and Antrim will also see patches of rain, the maps indicate. The most severely affected areas could experience 4mm of rain per hour, while 2mm is anticipated more broadly, according to the weather maps. By 8pm, the heavy band of rain will have shifted to drench Moray, Aberdeenshire and Fife in Scotland, with up to 4mm of rainfall possible, reports the Express. The rain will also have extended to cover Dumfries and Galloway, as well as Cumbria. The latest weather maps suggest conditions will have deteriorated further in Northern Ireland, with Tyrone and Armagh in particular forecast to experience heavy showers. Conwy and Gwynedd in north Wales are also predicted to see rain showers. By 11pm, Met Office weather maps turn yellow in places, indicating extremely heavy rainfall. Dumfries and Galloway, South Ayrshire, Stirling and large parts of the Highlands could all see up to 8mm of rain per hour. Thursday also appears unsettled too, though the worst-hit areas then will be across the south of England. The Met Office says it will also be breezy then, with strong westerly gusts on the cards. The fiercest of the gales will be across the western coast of Scotland, including North Ayrshire and Argyll and Bute.
