Emergency services raced to Limni, on the coast of Evia in Katounia in the early hours of Monday morning, where the vehicle was found overturned on a private road. A second British woman, aged 84, was reportedly seriously injured in the crash and rescued from the wreckage before being taken to a nearby hospital. Police, fire crews and paramedics from the Mantoudio Health Center were immediately scrambled to the scene. The crash is said to have taken place at around 4am, with the 82-year-old women having died on impact and the 84-year-old transferred to the General Hospital of Chalkida, reports Pelop News. According to local reports, the two women were traveling together when the vehicle veered off course. The exact circumstances of the accident remain under investigation. It is not yet clear what caused the car to swerve and overturn, or who was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash. A preliminary investigation into the causes of the fatal accident is being carried out by the local police. Limni is a picturesque seaside town built like an amphitheater along the blue waters of the northern Evian Gulf in northern Evia, Greece. The town features narrow cobblestone streets, traditional stone houses and striking neoclassical mansions. The Mirror has contacted the Foreign Office for comment.
