After police arrived at around 1.30pm local time yesterday a 32-year-old man attempted to exit the unit via the balcony and fell. The man, who has not been named, was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition. It is not known why the man attempted to exit the unit via the balcony after refusing police entry. A critical incident team from Leichhardt Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. A New South Wales Police spokesperson said: "A critical incident investigation is underway after a man was seriously injured after falling from a third-floor balcony in Sydney’s south. "Just before 1.30pm today (Tuesday 15 September 2026), police attended a unit complex on Cooper Street, Waterloo, as part of ongoing police investigations. On arrival, officers attached to South Sydney Police Area Command attempted to speak with a 32-year-old man who was inside the unit and refused police entry. "Whilst police remained outside the unit, the man attempted to exit the unit via the balcony and fell. Police subsequently located the 32-year-old man and rendered assistance until the arrival of NSW Ambulance paramedics. "The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics for serious injuries before he was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in a serious but stable condition. A crime scene was established and a critical incident team from Leichhardt Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding this incident. "The investigation will be subject of an independent review by the Professional Standards Command and oversight by the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission."
