Girl, 3, killed by car in driveway as 27-year-old man charged over death A man has been charged over the death of a three-year-old girl after she was hit by an SUV yesterday, with the tot rushed to hospital where she later died A man is set to appear in court over the death of a three-year-old girl who was allegedly struck by an SUV. Police confirm that, at about 2.05pm Tuesday (15 September 2026), emergency services were called to a home in the Sydney suburb of Auburn, in the wake of reports that a child had been hit by a car. Officers attached to Auburn Police Area Command attended the home on Normanby Road. Once there, police were told a three-year-old girl had been hit by a four-wheel drive as it pulled into a driveway. The tot was treated at the scene by paramedics from New South Wales Ambulance, before she was rushed to the nearby Westmead Hospital in a critical condition. She later died as a result of her injuries. The driver – a 27-year-old man – was uninjured. He was taken to Auburn Hospital for mandatory testing and, following his release from hospital, he was taken into police custody. Officers took the 27-year-old to the nearby Auburn Police Station where he was charged with negligent driving (occasioning death). He was granted conditional bail to appear before Burwood Local Court on Wednesday (16 September 2026)
