Sussex House Farm, in Cowden, close to Edenbridge on the Kent and Sussex border, boasts a swimming pool, tennis court and stables - all set within 30 acres. At its centre is a timber-beamed Grade II*-listed farmhouse, whose origins date back to 1580. In total, the property boasts nine bedrooms and eight bathrooms. And it was there that Roger Hargreaves - the man who created the Mr Men and Little Miss characters and books lived at the peak of his success. Mr Hargreaves and his family moved there in 1982 - when the farmhouse sat at the centre of 220 acres of working farmland. Speaking previously, son Adam Hargreaves said: “During the 1970s my dad became a wealthy man due to the success of Mr Men. And he enjoyed his success. One of those perks was a very nice house." Roger Hargreaves suffered a stroke and died, aged just 53, in September 1988. The Hargreaves family continued to live at the farm until 1992. The actor Sir John Mills also lived in Sussex House Farm during the 1950s and 60s. Famed for his work in more than 120 films, spanning seven decades, he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1971 for his role in Ryan’s Daughter. He was knighted in 1976. It was also where his daughter Hayley Mills - who shot to fame in a string of movies such as Pollyanna, The Parent Trap and Whistle Down The Wind - spent much of her childhood.
