Sheffield streets on lockdown as bomb squad deployed and homes evacuated Evacuated residents are staying at a rest centre after cops said it was vital to evacuate properties to keep people safe following the arrest of a woman under the Explosives Act Residents have been evacuated from a street in Sheffield after police swooped to arrest a woman under the Explosives Act. People were told to leave a number of properties near a house on Mapplebeck Road in the city's High Green area and multiple roads in the surrounding area have been closed. A 100-metre cordon is in place and the bomb squad have been pictured on the street, Yorkshire Live reports. Police teams have been at the house since Friday September 11 and specialists have been carrying out searches at the property. The order to evacuate comes after cops made a discovery on Tuesday, South Yorkshire Police said. Evacuated residents are staying at a nearby rest centre. Yesterday evening police confirmed that teams had been at the house since Friday, adding that a woman had been arrested under the explosives act. The force said in a statement: "There's been a police presence at the house since Friday 11 September, while a careful forensic search has been conducted by specialist officers. Following a discovery this afternoon, it has been deemed necessary to evacuate nearby properties to enable emergency services and specialists to ensure safety. "No injuries have been reported. Colleagues from other emergency services are in attendance as a precaution. Residents who have been advised to leave their home are directed to a nearby rest centre. A 36 year old woman appeared in court on Monday charged with Section 4 of the Explosive Substances Act 1883 and was remanded in custody." In an updated statement issued this morning police said the cordon is expected to remain in place throughout today while emergency services and specialist agencies worked to ensure the affected property and surrounding homes are safe. "We don’t underestimate the impact this has had on those affected and want to thank residents for their continued patience, understanding and cooperation.Throughout this incident, emergency services, the local authority, health partners and other agencies have been working closely together to support residents," the force added. Road closures are in place on Mapplebeck Road, Griffiths Road, School Road, Worrall Road, Beechwood Road, Hawthorne Road, Entwhistle Road and Greenwood Road.
