Charles Spencer's highly-anticipated memoir, titled 'Swan Song: Diana, My Sister', is due to be released on September 22 but this could be at risk following a heist. A lorry carrying thousands of copies of the book, from a printing plant in central Europe, was reportedly broken into. Four copies of the book, which had been wrapped in black plastic to hide the contents, were taken while the driver slept at a lay-by. This bombshell memoir is expected to include new revelations about Princess Diana's unhappy marriage to the now-King Charles. The book is set to be published nearly 30 years after Diana's death in August, 1997, by a division of Penguin Random House named Michael Joseph. A description for the book said: "In Swan Song, Charles Spencer provides the most intimate, loving and honest portrait yet of his sister." It added: "In September 1997, Charles Spencer stood in Westminster Abbey before a watching world and shared his grief at losing his beloved sister, Diana. Now, nearly thirty years later, he tells the astonishing story of his life with Diana and the tragic week of her death." The lorry had been travelling to a Dutch warehouse so the books to be distributed to bookshops in the Netherlands. The lorry driver reportedly fell asleep in a lay-by in the Dutch countryside and realised in the morning that the vehicle was broken into, with some copies missing, according to the Daily Mail. Dutch police have reportedly launched a probe into the major theft as publishing sources claim it could have been a plot to steal the anticipating book before it is publicly released, according to the Mail. A publishing source reportedly said: "It's extremely suspicious. Nothing like this has ever happened before. This is probably the biggest book of the year and the security surrounding it has been incredibly tight. "Every possible precaution has been taken to prevent it from being leaked ahead of its serialisation. Therefore this unprecedented incident is being taken extremely seriously." Earl Spencer, when he announced the book back in August, said: "With the 30th anniversary of Diana’s tragic death on the skyline, I've been inundated yet again with requests for interviews about my sister. "This has convinced me to write down my own thoughts and memories, once and for all, rather than having the discomfort of again reading the opinions of others, many of which are based on untruths that have become accepted over time. "The aim of this book is to tell the truth about Diana from her brother’s perspective, just as I attempted to do when speaking at her funeral. As with my eulogy, I want to speak on Diana’s behalf and do so in an openly positive way." The Mirror has reached out to Michael Joseph and Charles Spencer for comment.
