Armed police raced to a neighbourhood in northwest London and placed schools and synagogues under lockdown following reports of a man with a firearm.
Officers were called to Edgwarebury Lane in Edgware at 3:50pm following the reports. A number of nearby venues, including schools and synagogues, were locked down for a short period of time as a precaution.
The firearm is believed to be a toy based on several eyewitness accounts, the Met Police said. Members of the public described the item as having a broken handle and making toy noises.
Police remain in the area as they continue looking for the man.
