During this interaction, William told the 68-year-old star he was a fan of Slow Horses, the British drama in which Oldman plays grumpy spy Jackson Lamb. Speaking in a podcast recently, Oldman recalled the encounter. The filmmaker, who has won three BAFTAs and one Golden Globe, said: "It was William who said to me, 'Every time you come on the screen, I just want to give you a good wash'." Slow Horses won an award for Outstanding Directing of a Drama Series at the Emmys this week. Since then, Oldman spoke on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast and recalled the prince's anecdote. And the father of three, who was born in New Cross, south London, also revealed Queen Camilla also enjoys Slow Horses, which started in 2022. Oldman continued: "I know that Camilla, the Queen, is a big fan because, well, I’ve run into her a couple of times. Like you do, you know. And she said: 'Are there any more? I hope it’s coming back, isn’t it?” Oldman, known for his rugged, intense acting style, got a special suit made for what he described as "the very emotional" knighthood last year. While he knew he would be knighted a few weeks in advance, the actor kept the news from his family until it was announced publicly. When asked about it, he stated the royal family had told him not to say anything, and he intended to "follow the rules". And the star was then pictured beaming as he shook Prince William's hand at Windsor Castle and engaged with the 44-year-old royal. Since then, series six of Slow Horses concluded and fans have clamoured for more of the programme. It follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 officers as they navigate the treacherous world of espionage to defend England against sinister forces. Jack Lowden and Kristin Scott Thomas also star in the show, which airs on Apple+. It also won one Emmy in 2024, and another in 2025, for Outstanding Writing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series respectively.
