Met Office issues 'summer returns' forecast as temperatures may reach high-20s Met Office weather forecasters say there could be a 'sense that summer returns next week' as temperatures begin to rise and potentially reach the high 20s in some areas Summery conditions could make a surprise return next week with temperatures potentially climbing into the high 20s, according to the Met Office. The UK is set for a warmer spell after days of unsettled weather as temperatures are set to build through the early part of next week. Met Office forecaster Aiden McGivern said there could be a "sense that summer returns next week" as the mercury rises across much of the country. For London, temperatures are expected to reach the low to mid-20s, with the warmest conditions most likely around Tuesday and Wednesday. Models suggest temperatures could even reach the high-20s later next week, although the Met Office added that these hotter scenarios appear to be "in the minority". Mr McGivern explained the Met Office used 51 different simulations from the European weather model to access the possible weather patterns. "You can see the general upward trend, not dramatic, but it's generally upward [...] through the early part of next week for London, for example, up into the low to mid-20s," he said. "Some of these runs are indicating the high-20s, but they're in the minority." Cardiff also shows an upward trend next week, meaning it too could welcome warmer weather - particularly on Tuesday and Wednesday. The forecaster said the overall trend towards warmer weather is clear for London and Cardiff, while forecasts for Belfast and Edinburgh are more uncertain. High pressure is expected to remain the dominant feature for much of the UK during this period, but more low-pressure systems begin to appear in forecasts towards the end of the week. It means warmer weather could eventually give way to more unsettled conditions, particularly across northern parts of the country. In its long-range forecast for September 21 to September 30, the Met Office said "plenty of dry and increasingly warm" weather is likely, as well as humid conditions. The forecast reads: "The first part of this period will likely see a build of pressure across much of the UK, with Atlantic weather fronts becoming more confined to northern and northwestern areas. "As such, plenty of dry and increasingly warm and perhaps rather humid weather will develop, whilst the bulk of the rain and possible strong winds are more likely to affect the northwest of the UK. "Many areas may remain mostly settled towards the end of September, but there is the possibility of areas of low pressure moving in from the Atlantic bringing more widely unsettled conditions by the end of the month."
