A Western Australian police officer has pleaded guilty in a Perth court to assaulting his five-week-old baby.
Nickolas Wayne Peake, 30, appeared at the Midland Magistrates court today charged with aggravated common assault.
In a statement, WA police said detectives from the Child Abuse Squad laid the charges on Sunday after the assault, and the baby was taken to Perth Children's Hospital as a precaution.
Police said Peake, a serving officer, had been stood down.
He was released on bail after pleading guilty to the charge.
Peake declined to answer any questions from the media outside court.
He is due back in court next month.
