Heavy rain and cloud could impact parts of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland on Friday, according to the latest Met Office weather forecasting maps
Several regions are expected to see heavy rain on Friday as temperatures remain below 20C for most Brits.
Despite some bright spells in southern and central areas this week, the mercury has struggled to rise much above the low-20s. Weather conditions are expected to improve from next week, but showers appear to be on their way first.
In this afternoon’s Met Office video forecast, meteorologist Clare Nasir explained rain is expected to move across Northern Ireland in the morning on Friday before reaching parts of Scotland, Wales and England.
She said: “Through the morning we’ll see sunshine across England and Wales before rain arrives in Northern Ireland. By mid-morning it will be western Scotland seeing the wet weather as winds pick up some strength. And notice the clouds thickening ahead of it for northern Scotland, northern England, the Midlands, Wales, and also the West Country.
“The rain could actually turn heavy in places into the afternoon on Friday, and it will continue to push its way eastwards and southwards… and certainly it remains wet across Northern Ireland and the bulk of Scotland.”
Temperatures are expected to struggle tomorrow afternoon under the cloud, rain and wind, with the mercury peaking at 22C in the far south-east, 18C in the Midlands, 16C in Northern Ireland and 15-16C across Scotland.
The Met Office weather maps show 19 counties could see heavy rain tomorrow. They are in Northern Ireland, western Scotland, the north-west of England and North Wales.

BBC Weather forecast
BBC Weather’s forecast paints a similar picture, with showers expected in western areas. It states: “Tomorrow will see a bright start for many, but turning cloudy from the west with patchy rain developing. The rain may become locally heavy in the west during the afternoon.”
It adds for this weekend: “Saturday will be breezy with showers in the north-west, some patchy rain for the south, but drier and brighter elsewhere. Sunday will see any rain in the south and showers in the north ease, leaving it largely sunny.”
