'We ain't gonna play it safe': Anthony Edwards calls out Sixers' James, Brown in Adidas ad

Key Points

Anthony Edwards has jokes for days, and maybe a little tension left over from one of the NBA's biggest decisions of the summer. Adidas, which signed the Minnesota Timberwolves star guard in December 2020 after he entered the league, released a new advertisement on social media Thursday morning to promote the release of Edwards' new shoe on Friday. Edwards wasted no time in getting spicy and adding some flames in a joking manner about an offseason rumor that was settled in late July: why LeBron James didn't sign with the Timberwolves. "We ain't gonna play it safe. Speaking of old-school, you see where big dog ended up? He was gonna join me in Minnesota. But I guess his knees couldn't handle the cold weather," Edwards said, referring to James. Welcome to Minnatlantasota. Edwards went on to add Sixers guard Jaylen Brown into the mix of trolling, saying he knows why James landed on Philly. "We know why he really made that decision. Philly got some of the best barbers in the world. Between him and ol' boy from Boston, they gonna have a lotta enhancements going on in the locker room," Edwards said, referencing Brown's black hair enhancement spray appearing to rub off onto multiple opponents' jerseys last season. Once Edwards was done with the James-Brown (not the legendary funk singer) jokes, he touched on his excitement to play with LaMelo Ball in the upcoming season. "They brought my twin to the Twin Cities. We've been working out together and doing all types of things. But one thing we ain't doing is carpooling if he driving," Edwards quipped, a reference to Ball's driving style. If one thing's certain, we know Ant-Man will look to have a certain date circled on the NBA regular-season schedule for his get-back in James' decision: Minnesota's matchup against Philly on Jan. 16.
