The incident took place during pick up time as pupils and parents were heading home from Holy Family Catholic primary school in Sale Moor, Trafford, yesterday. The crash involved two cars, police said, and a pedestrian. A man, 45, was later arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving and has since been bailed. Meanwhile, the crash victim, aged in his 70s, is understood to remain in hospital with a suspected leg fracture. His injuries have been described as "serious" by the police. A statement from Greater Manchester Police reads: "We were called shortly before 4pm on Wednesday 16 September to reports of a (road traffic collision) on Old Hall Road, Sale, involving two cars and a pedestrian. "Officers attended and a man in his 70s was taken to hospital with serious injuries. "A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and drug driving. He has since been bailed pending further enquiries." The school has emailed parents to inform them about the incident, saying the lollipop man is recovering in hospital, Manchester Evening News reports. The crash took place on a pedestrian crossing on New Hall Road, a busy road between the M60 and Sale Moor village, located just outside the school. A spokesperson for Trafford Council said: "This was a very upsetting incident and we are offering support to the school crossing patrolman who was injured, as well as to the school community. We are also supporting police with their investigation."
