Citi’s Korea Trading Head Says Buy Won Near 1,400 Per Dollar
The won’s recent weakness may be short lived as South Korea’s chip sector bolsters growth, supporting the currency’s recovery against the dollar by year-end, according to a Citigroup Inc. trader.
“There is a risk the won could fall past 1,400 per dollar in the near term,” driven by external factors such as a hawkish Federal Reserve and inflation concerns linked to higher oil prices,” Lee Sanghun, head of Korea trading, said in an interview late Wednesday. “I don’t think it will stay that weak for long, so levels around 1,400 would be a good opportunity to sell dollars and buy the won.”
