A new study has revealed the top 15 tell-tale signs that summer has finally drawn to a close. A poll of 2,000 adults found 64% always try to make the joy of the sunny season last as long as possible as 74% go into denial about summer ending. However, reaching for a coat when you leave the house, seeing Halloween and Christmas items in the shops - and wearing socks indoors are among the things Brits think signal the end of summer. The research, carried out by BuzzBallz, found other markers include grabbing a jumper on your way out 'just in case' (28%), or finally packing away summer wardrobe essentials (33%). In a bid to help festival-goers extract every ounce of enjoyment from the remaining season, BuzzBallz has unveiled a special-edition 'BallzTentz' - measuring slightly over two metres across and designed for two people, crafted in the distinctive shape of its recognisable bottle. Jess Scheerhorn, president of the beverage company, which is offering five lucky winners the opportunity to bag one of the tents through their social media platforms, commented: "In the UK, we know there's always a bit of a scrabble to try and extend the summer, whether that's one last festival, a late BBQ, or simply refusing to put the shorts away. "After the long summer we have had this year, many want to keep that feeling going a little longer. "Brits have an amazing habit of treating every sunny September weekend like it could be the last, packing out campsites, festivals and beer gardens in one final push before autumn arrives. "BallzTentz are our way of celebrating that brilliantly optimistic spirit and helping fans make one more unforgettable memory with friends before summer officially signs off, responsibly." Research has revealed that 62% of Brits believe summer properly ends in September, with 56% planning one last adventure, festival or outdoor get-together to soak up the sunshine before autumn sets in. Meanwhile, 65% admitted that a late summer festival or camping expedition lifts their spirits, while 68% view it as the ideal farewell to the warmer months. Some 40% declared summer their most-loved season, with 61% rating it above winter and autumn combined. And 34% would extend the sunny period year-round if given the chance, as 49% regard it as an opportunity to embrace spontaneous last-minute getaways and enjoyment. One in three attempt to stretch out the feeling by stubbornly keeping their summer wardrobe in rotation, while 22% persist with alfresco drinks. The study, carried out via OnePoll, also found Brits dread the shorter days and darker evenings (33%), cold weather (32%), and boost the energy bills (30%) that will come with the start of winter. Alongside the inevitable winter colds (18%) and spending less time outdoors (15%) after summer comes to a close.
