Piers Morgan furiously slams 'shameless' Earl Spencer after Prince Harry and Meghan claim Piers Morgan has lashed out at Diana, Princess of Wales' brother, Earl Spencer, in a furious outburst after the aristocrat made a series of shocking claims ahead of the release of his book Piers Morgan has hit out at Earl Spencer, claiming he is "shamelessly profiting" off the death of his sister, Diana, Princess of Wales. In recent days, Earl Spencer, 62, has made a series of shocking allegations against Diana's former in-laws, most notably her former husband, the now King Charles. One allegation, detailed in his upcoming book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, the Earl claims that following her tragic death in 1997, as Prince of Wales, Charles said: "We'll forget her soon enough". Diana, aged just 36, died due to injuries she sustained in a car crash in Paris. She was pronounced dead at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital, around two hours after she was rushed there. During a recent interview with the BBC, the Earl claimed the press coverage surrounding his nephew, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, was a "cancerous influence in their life". The Sussexes recently returned to the UK, having spent the last few years living in California. Speaking to Laura Kuenssberg, Earl Spencer said: "If you look at an article in a tabloid about Diana or… Harry and Meghan, you know, they can be really, really unpleasant. And I think it would be really beholden on people to learn from Diana's example." Now, Piers Morgan has lashed out in an explosive social media rant. In view of his 2.6 million followers, he fumed it was "beyond parody" to make such allegations while portraying the Monarch in a "malign, cancerous way" in his book. He claimed: "I've seen some brass necks in my time but Earl Spencer slamming the 'malign cancerous' way the media supposedly treat Harry/Meghan, whilst simultaneously flogging his book which treats King Charles in a malign cancerous way (as our 77-year-old Monarch actually battles cancer) is beyond parody. "Spencer always angrily condemned those who made money out of his sister Diana. Now, like his nephew Harry, he is shamelessly profiting off the late Princess whilst simultaneously attacking the media for intruding into Royal privacy." Piers continued: "It would be comically ironic if it wasn't so deeply wounding and damaging to King Charles, who has done such a great job in his new role despite his serious health issues." Last week, Buckingham Palace made the rare move of issuing a statement after the Earl alleged the King said people will "forget" his late sister. In response to the claims made in the memoir, a Buckingham Palace spokesman said on Wednesday: "While we do not comment on books as a matter of principle, His Majesty is mindful that the pain of fraternal grief can cloud reason, affect judgment and colour memory in ways others do not recognise, even many years after such a loss." But firing back, the Earl claimed to have been "gaslit" by His Majesty, adding that the statement was a "poor imitation of the 'recollections may vary,'" quote which Her Late Majesty famously used during the fallout from Harry and Meghan's infamous Oprah Winfrey interview. However, the Earl insists that he is "telling the truth" in his book. Earl Spencer, as a historian, says it was his "duty... as an eyewitness to history," to share Diana's story.
