Paramedics attended the crash at McEdward Street, Birdwoodton shortly after 6:30am this morning and took one woman to Mildura Hospital. The collision caused a power surge and set off a number of automatic fire alarms in Mildura and surrounding areas. Powercor spokesperson Jordan Oliver said the crash impacted "a feeder" or a major powerline. He said it was "essentially one of the major backbone powerlines from Merbein coming into parts of Mildura". "Around 2,700 customers [were] impacted on that feeder and that includes homes, businesses ... and a lot of properties [with] automated alarm systems will be triggering due to a loss of mains power supply," he said.Power is expected to be restored about 5:30pm.
