JJ Spaun reveals Jeremy Clarkson disappointment after defeating Rory McIlroy at BMW PGA JJ Spaun made his feelings clear about Jeremy Clarkson shortly after battling with Rory McIlroy at the BMW PGA Championship JJ Spaun has revealed he is still waiting to meet Jeremy Clarkson after securing the BMW PGA Championship. The American golfer was bizarrely inspired to victory at Wentworth by the TV presenter but is yet to cross paths with the Clarkson’s Farm star in person. The 36-year-old held his nerve to claim victory in Surrey on Sunday, finishing with a two-stroke lead on 17-under-par. Spaun carded five-under in his final round, while Rory McIlroy was part of a four-way tie for second place. The former US Open champion earned the £1.14million ($1.53m) top prize as he celebrated victory but attention soon turned to his fondness for Clarkson during his post-tournament press conference. Spaun’s wife Melody captured attention by cheering on her husband while holding a cut-out of Clarkson’s face. The couple, who have been married since 2019, are huge fans of his hit show Clarkson’s Farm, which has helped grow their passion for England. However, Spaun’s hopes of seeing Clarkson at his pub previously ended in disappointment. “We've grown fond of him, along with the English culture, we actually take holidays in December in the Cotswolds, and we really enjoy his show,” Spaun said after his BMW PGA Championship victory. “I went to his pub, The Farmer's Dog, with the hopes to catch a glimpse of him but he wasn't around.” He added: “My wife said we would have a surprise guest following me this week if I competed in the tournament and, sure enough, I see the face of Jeremy Clarkson and her holding it. Jeremy was there in spirit and I think he brought me good fortune.” The show struck a chord with the golfer and his wife as they had visited the Cotswolds shortly before discovering the programme. Melody explained how the Clarkson cut-out became a lucky mascot for her husband after helping guide him to victory on Sunday. “JJ and I are massive fans of Clarkson’s Farm. He’s educated us so much on British farming and we absolutely love it,” Melody told the DP World Tour. “We see tramlines all the time now and know what they are. So, yeah, we won’t be giving him up any time soon. Hopefully, maybe one day, we’ll get to meet him in person. That would be the dream.” Clarkson’s Farm began airing on Amazon Prime in 2021 and recently released its fifth series in June of this year. While the TV host may have played a part in Spaun’s success at the weekend, he was also driven to victory by his recent snub for the upcoming Presidents Cup. “I played with a huge chip on my shoulder,” Spaun said. “I definitely had something to prove this week, but everything happens for a reason.” However, his omission allowed Spaun and his wife to head to England for the BMW PGA Championship. It is the sixth victory of his professional career and his second of the year, following his win at the Valero Texas Open in April.
