New Tesco 'UK first' food in stores now made with just three ingredients The food item, which has just landed in Tesco stores across the UK, is made from just three ingredients Tesco is now selling a food item as part of a brand-new offer available in stores across the UK. The food item is described as a 'UK first' and can be used in a wide variety of dishes. Shoppers can now get their hands on Whitworths' Nutty Kitchen Supermince, which claims to be the UK's first unprocessed meat-free plant-based mince. It landed in 900 Tesco stores nationwide on Sunday, September 20. It is also available on Ocado. The 100% natural meat-free alternative is the supermarket's latest addition to the plant-based aisle. Unlike other meat substitutes that can be ultra-processed, the Whitworths Nutty Kitchen Supermince is made with just three ingredients: Californian walnuts, lentils and red quinoa. The mince comes with a blend of "fragrant" herbs and spices, providing a "sumptuous solution to the nation’s meal fatigue woes". Tesco shoppers can buy a 200g bag for £3.20. There are various flavours to choose from, including: Indian, Mexican, Italian and original. The plant-based mince is described as incredibly versatile. From quick weekday tacos to comforting Bolognese or spicy chilli, it cooks just like traditional mince. Whitworths says it is the only unprocessed, nutrient-dense meat-free mince on the market. The brand adds that it offers a more "natural and wholesome" alternative for anyone looking to cut back on meat without "compromising on taste or texture". Walnuts are a great source of protein and rich in fibre. According to the British Nutrition Foundation, adults in the UK should eat 30 grams of fibre a day, but the average intake is only about 19-20 grams. Research also suggests that eating walnuts daily can support blood vessel elasticity, helping to maintain a healthy heart and cardiovascular system. According to Harvard Health, walnuts are rich in alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid that lowers LDL ('bad') cholesterol and reduces inflammation. Tesco shoppers can trial Nutty Kitchen Supermince through a 'try for free' initiative. Customers can claim a refund for their purchase on freenuttykitchen.com, whether they love it or simply find the product is not to their taste. Phil Gowland, Commercial Director at Whitworths, said: "We know shoppers are increasingly frustrated with plant-based products that feel over-processed or fall short on taste and texture. Whitworths' Nutty Kitchen Supermince is different. "It’s simple, unprocessed, natural and bursting with essential nutrients we all need on a daily basis, whilst still delivering that meaty texture people love. At Whitworths, our mission is to make healthy, unprocessed foods more accessible, and our Nutty Kitchen Supermince is a delicious step in that direction. It’s a product we’re incredibly proud of, and we can’t wait for shoppers to now find it in Tesco stores."
