John's wife Carol, 61, and their daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were murdered by rapist Kyle Clifford in a crossbow attack in their family home in 2024. John, 61, and his remaining daughter Amy, 32, are currently embarking on a 125-mile walk from Bushey, Hertfordshire, to Bournemouth, Dorset, to raise money for The Hunt Family Fund and other charities in memory of their loved ones. The nine-day journey will see them walk together to the south coast, via Windsor and the New Forest. Describing the "heavy, emotional impact", he told BBC Radio 5Live: "Today it's our wedding anniversary. We've been married 35 years today, so there's a lot to process. "There's a lot to channel, but we're keeping one foot in front of the other and right now we're in the middle of beautiful countryside with the sun shining. So we're just trying to make the best of that." Speaking about his wedding anniversary, he added: "I'm celebrating it. Definitely we are, without a doubt. Our wedding day was a magnificent day, and we had 33 amazing years together. I'm celebrating that today." Carol, 61, and daughters Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were murdered by rapist Kyle Clifford in a crossbow attack in their family home in 2024. Clifford is now serving a whole-life prison sentence for the triple murder after a court heard he had become "enraged" when Louise ended their relationship and committed the murders in a "violent, sexual act of spite". During their charity challenge, John and Amy hope to raise £75,000 for a number of charities, including the Hertfordshire Community Fund and Future Living Hertford, who have helped them to receive counselling. So far they have raised more than £60,000. Speaking about the conversations John had had with people joining them on the challenge, he said: "They change, they vary because one minute they swing from talking and laughing about nonsense to sharing very, very personal things. "You know, we were with family on day one and a couple of family opened up as we walked about their feelings as well. And counselling and talking is very, very important to both Amy and myself and it struck us on day one that the family member was talking in the way he was for the very first time since we lost the girls, and it was lovely, it was empowering. "It was great to see him able to do that. So conversations vary wildly, and obviously you just need periods of peace and quiet as well. We're experiencing the whole range of emotions as we go, which we knew it would be that way, but when it gets trickier, it's still very, very hard to walk through those moments." Clifford was handed a whole-life order for the three murders on July 9 2024, the false imprisonment and rape of Louise, and possession of a crossbow and knife. Louise had broken up with Clifford 13 days before, telling friends he had a nasty temper. Following the deaths, John said the devastation he and his surviving daughter Amy feel “cannot be put into words”. But the brave racing commentator returned to work just 60 days after the horrific deaths of his family. Footage released by cops shows Clifford breaking down during a police interview as he is asked about a note he wrote to his family.
