Python on the loose in Plymouth with 'gridlock' as fire crews close road A python has wrapped itself around a tree with the fire service brought in to try and bring it down safely during a major emergency service response in Plymouth Emergency services are trying to catch a python which has wrapped itself around a tree in Plymouth. There is "gridlocked" traffic on Plymouth Hoe as firefighters have confirmed they are trying to retrieve a python wrapped around the branch of a tree with the help of a vet. The fire service was called at around 5.10pm today to public toilets at West Hoe Park, on Hoe Road, with what is believed to be a carpet python now coiled around a branch which is high up a tree. It understood that a vet was unable to catch the python and that the fire brigade was called by the police to bring a ladder - with the snake around 3m high up. Cars are turning around on Hoe Road with fire engines blocking the road with the snake stull on the loose, Plymouth Live reports. A spokesperson for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service said: "We got a call at 5.10pm, to the public toilets at West Hoe Park on Hoe Road. "We have a fire engine and an aerial ladder platform at the scene. It's believed a carpet Python is coiled around a branch up high. "A vet is unable to retrieve it and the police requested the help of the fire service with a ladder to get the Python down. Fire crews are working with the police to retrieve the snake from a tree approximately 3m high. "The road was closed while crews dealt with the incident. The animal is still loose."
