Officers were called to an address in Estepona on Spain's Costa del Sol to carry out a welfare check after a woman made a panicked phone call at about 1 am on September 5. "My partner has gone to a house to carry out shady business and told me that if I didn’t contact him in ten minutes, I should call the police," she told police. When there was no answer at the Old Town property, officers climbed a fence to investigate the property. Before they managed to clear the fence, a naked man ran out of the building, screaming, all while drenched in blood. "They've kidnapped me and they're going to kill me," the man said. He was later identified as the partner of the woman who had alerted police. Police found two men wearing face masks inside and they fired a warning shot into the air when they noticed what appeared to be a firearm. Officers called for backup and continued their investigation of the property. Inside they found a torture chamber where a second man was tied to a chair and covered in blood. Plastic sheets covered the floor and walls and police located a number of torture tools that were later collected as evidence. The plastic sheets are believed to have been used to prevent any blood and forensic traces of crimes that happened at the site. A source told outlet EL ESPAÑOL with plastic being burned at the property. Officers arrested seven people in connection with the house of horrors, with police suspecting the crimes are linked to gang violence. They have since been jailed for torture, kidnapping and other charges. All perpetrators and victims had criminal records, the outlet reported. Most had served prison sentences. Investigators suspect the torture were in retribution for a drug-related matter, with motives spanning theft, money owed, or a bungled job. Investigations continue. Speaking to EL ESPAÑOL, authorities said: "[This] is a gang dedicated to trafficking cocaine and hashish, whose activity also includes other crimes such as extortion." Authorities are considering involving Interpol to help track down the remaining members of the gang, as the seven arrested at the torture house were all Georgian citizens. The Provincial Brigade of Judicial Police of Malaga said: "The activity of this organisation of professional criminals had a presence on the Costa del Sol, in the Campo de Gibraltar and in the Levante area."
