Bristol school locked down as 'man with weapon' seen and armed police scrambled Pupils at Barton Hill Academy were told to stay on school grounds as armed cops descended on the quiet residential street after reports of a man with a bladed weapon nearby Pupils at a Bristol school went into lockdown after armed police were dispatched to a nearby incident involving a man with a bladed weapon. Avon and Somerset Police said officers were called to Queen Ann Road, in the Barton Hill area, after a report of a man with a bladed weapon. Pupils at Barton Hill Academy were told to stay on school grounds as the school was placed briefly into lockdown this afternoon for children's safety, Bristol Live reports. Pupils have since been released but police remain at the scene currently as the area is being searched. A police drone has been seen flying overhead. Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement: “At 2.23pm we received a report of a man seen with a bladed weapon behind a disused building in Queen Ann Road. “As a precaution, armed officers were deployed and have carried out searches in the surrounding area, however no weapon has been found.While searches were ongoing, a nearby school was asked to briefly keep its pupils on the school grounds, but they have since been released.” Queen Ann Road has since reopened.
