The bacteria cause food poisoning with symptoms usually starting 12 to 72 hours after exposure. It can last four to seven days, with people urged to stay away from work and school. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a recall notice for the items and said: "Symptoms caused by Salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps. "Alternatively, we can arrange for the affected product to be collected from you. Once the collection has been completed and the goods have been returned, our CS team will process your refund." Most people become infected by eating contaminated food. It explained: "Salmonella can be found in foods such as eggs, chicken, pork and dairy products.
