Earlier this week, JT Leyland Limited, a long-standing logistics and haulage enterprise offering distribution, warehousing and storage solutions to clients throughout the UK and Europe, opted to enter administration. The firm pointed to a challenging trading environment, coupled with escalating costs creating financial strain, as the catalyst for the move. JT Leyland has been operating for more than 50 years. Its offerings include full and part-load distribution, pallet deliveries and same-day courier operations. The business, situated in Milnthorpe, Cumbria, has a fleet of vehicles spanning from transit vans through to 44-tonne articulated lorries. The company has 43 staff members on its books, and the administrators have confirmed that all workers have been made redundant, reports the Express. JT Leyland ran over 70,000 sq ft of warehousing facilities. The administrators have stated that a handful of staff have been kept on in a consultancy capacity to assist with winding down operations. Raj Mittal, joint administrator of JT Leyland Limited and a partner at FRP, commented: "JT Leyland was a well-established business in the logistics and haulage sector, having built up a strong presence from its base in Milnthorpe. "Our focus is now on managing an orderly wind down of the company's operations, supporting employees affected by the redundancies and working closely with key stakeholders to maximise value from the company's assets for the benefit of creditors." According to the latest official figures, 182 businesses entered administration in August, a 60% increase on August 2025. The average monthly number of administrations during the first eight months of 2026 was 36% higher than the 2025 monthly average. The Gazette, the official public record of insolvencies, reports this was driven by a surge in cases between March and August 2026, when upwards of 250 connected companies in the real estate sector went into administration.
