2027 commit fits for Syracuse, UConn, Purdue and Gonzaga

At current count, there are 18 five-stars in the SC Next 100 class of 2027. That number will fluctuate over the course of the season, as these high school seniors continue to develop and showcase their skills to evaluators around the country. Needless to say, these are the best future college basketball players in the country. They will significantly impact whatever program they choose to commit to -- and even, in some cases, the programs they pass on. Four are already off the board, including Syracuse's second five-star in the past decade. As key commitments happen over the next six months, ESPN will be tracking each one right here, breaking down how it happened, the fit and more. Players are ordered by rank. See the full 2027 ESPN 100 player rankings here NaVorro Bowman Jr., PG 2027 SC Next 100 ranking: 12 Committed to: UConn Commitment date: Sept. 10, 2026 Background: The son of former NFL standout NaVorro Bowman established himself as one of the elite guards in the 2027 class on both the grassroots and international circuits over the past several months. Coming out of the summer, he planned to make four visits to UConn, Illinois, Texas and Arizona. But after taking a trip to Storrs to see Dan Hurley's program the first weekend of September, Bowman Jr. ended his recruitment with a commitment to the Huskies. How he fits: Bowman Jr. is one of the most explosive players in this class. He ranked fifth on the Nike EYBL circuit in scoring and also helped lead USA Basketball to the gold medal at the FIBA U17 Men's World Cup by averaging 11.9 points and 3.6 assists. Even with Silas Demary Jr. and Braylon Mullins likely out the door next April, Hurley will still bring back incoming freshman Junior County and former starter Solo Ball, who is redshirting this season. Adding an elite scorer like Bowman Jr. will bring a different dimension to the Huskies' perimeter. What's next for the programs who missed on Bowman Jr.?: It's still relatively early in the 2027 cycle, and the majority of power-conference programs will keep plenty of cash on hand for the spring's transfer portal window. But expect Illinois, Texas and Arizona to pivot elsewhere in the 2027 guard market. The Longhorns' priority remains No. 1 overall senior Beckham Black; the Illini have already hosted top-10 2028 prospect Brady Pettigrew, an in-state recruit who has been rumored as a potential reclassification candidate; and the Wildcats are in a good position for top-10 senior Adan Diggs. Moussa Kamissoko, PF 2027 SC Next 100 ranking: 15 Committed to: Syracuse Commitment date: Sept. 25, 2026 Background: Kamissoko has been a Syracuse target since early in his high school career, earning an offer from the Orange as a sophomore. Dozens of other schools joined the pursuit, particularly this past summer after he had consistently stellar showings with the PSA Cardinals on the Nike EYBL circuit. Florida State emerged as Syracuse's biggest competition in August; the Seminoles had offered Kamissoko and also hosted him for a visit late in the summer. But Gerry McNamara and the new Orange staff were able to hold off the Seminoles -- as well as Illinois, Virginia, Oklahoma State and others. Kamissoko becomes the first five-star of McNamara's head coaching career, and the program's second five-star in the past decade. How he fits: Kamissoko is exactly the type of long, rangy forward to help Syracuse immediately on the defensive end. He established himself as one of the better rebounders on the EYBL circuit during the summer and has a developing offensive game. Projecting a roster from year to year, especially a group under a new head coach, is nearly impossible in this era of college sports, but Kamissoko could be an addition next season to a deep and talented perimeter core that currently includes Temple transfer Aiden Tobiason, Siena transfer Gavin Doty, sophomore returnees Sadiq White Jr. and Kiyan Anthony and McNeese transfer Garwey Dual. All five will have eligibility after this season and bring versatility and two-way impact. Isaiah Hill, C 2027 SC Next 100 ranking: 17 Committed to: Purdue Commitment date: May 15, 2026 Background: When Hill committed to Purdue back in May, he became the highest-ranked prospect to commit to the Boilermakers since the ESPN recruiting database began in 2007. (He then dropped slightly in the rankings, so that honor is back with Caleb Swanigan, who committed to the Boilermakers back in 2015.) Matt Painter's program had made Hill a priority since he was in eighth grade, earmarking him as the next 7-footer in a long lineage of elite big men at "Big Man U." Louisville was also involved, receiving a visit back in the fall of 2025, as was Florida State. But Purdue was able to keep the Indianapolis product in state. How he fits: Hill's biggest immediate impact will likely come on the defensive end, where he has already established himself as one of the premier shot-blockers and rim protectors in the 2027 class. He can finish above the rim and has shown flashes of a face-up game despite just turning 17 in August. There are high hopes in West Lafayette this season for third-year big man Daniel Jacobsen, but even if he returns in 2027-28, Hill will have a chance to acclimate to the college game behind a proven 7-4 center. Dooney Johnson, PG 2027 ESPN 100 ranking: 18 Committed to: Gonzaga Commitment date: Oct. 29, 2025 Background: Johnson was one of the first high-profile prospects in the class to announce his commitment, before the 2025-26 college basketball season even began. He's the Zags' highest-ranked prospect since the 2021 class, and has had a longstanding relationship with former Gonzaga star Jalen Suggs, after Johnson's father coached Suggs when he was younger. Johnson, a Milwaukee native, was a sought-after target for in-state Wisconsin and Marquette, taking trips to both programs, but Mark Few managed to poach him from the Midwest. How he fits: Johnson's versatility and physicality should allow him to see the floor early in Spokane; he's capable of being used as a big playmaker or as a slasher in the half-court, and he possesses a strong transition game. He's also one of the better defenders in the 2027 class and should be able to guard multiple positions at the college level. The Zags should have plenty of talent on the perimeter in 2027-28, although if Johnson shows he can be consistent as a point guard and primary ball-handler, there should be minutes alongside the likes of Isiah Harwell, Davis Fogle and Luca Foster.
