CBSE third-language rule: SC extends relaxations to Class VI students

SC extends Class VII-VIII relaxations to Class VI (PTI photo) NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the CBSE to extend to Class VI students the same exemptions and relaxations available to students of Classes VII and VIII under its newly introduced three-language scheme.Under the order, Class VI students will have to study the newly mandated third language, but they will not have to appear for a CBSE Board examination in that language when they reach Class X. The exemption is currently available to students who are in Classes VII and VIII. The Supreme Court has also extended another relaxation to Class VI students. Those already studying two non-native languages will be allowed to continue with the same combination and take one additional Bharatiya Bhasha as their third language.This means such students will not have to drop or change either of their existing languages to accommodate the two regional languages required under the new language scheme.The directions bring Class VI students on par with the current Classes VII and VIII batches in terms of the exemptions and flexibility available under the CBSE's three-language policy.
