'Bright and remarkable' man found dead in Snowdonia lake after getting into difficulty in water Mahammed Maim Islan, 20, from London, was found dead in the lake on the slopes of Snowdon after police received reports a man had got into difficulty on the slopes Tributes have been paid to a 'bright and remarkable' man who was found dead in a lake on one of Britain's most famous mountains. Mahammed Maim Islan, 20, was pulled from the water after police received reports around 7pm on Saturday that a man had got into difficulty at Llyn Glaslyn on the slopes of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon). Emergency services rushed to the scene, alongside members of the Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team and launched a search of the area. The search resumed the following morning, with the Joint Underwater Search Team also involved. The man's body was found and recovered around midday on Sunday. The man has since been identified as 20-year-old Mahammed Maim Islan, originally from London. A statement from his family said: "Mahammed was a bright and remarkable young man with a promising future ahead of him. He was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a cherished friend whose kindness and character touched the lives of all who knew him." "His untimely passing has left his family, friends, and wider community heartbroken. He will be remembered for the joy he brought to others, the memories he created, and the positive impact he had on those fortunate enough to cross his path. "Mahammed will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by everyone who knew him. Our thoughts and sincere condolences remain with his family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time. "The family would like to thank all involved in the search and recovery of Mahammed." North Wales Police Chief Inspector Steve Pawson said: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family and friends at this incredibly difficult time. "The Coroner has been informed and enquiries are now underway. "I would like to express my thanks to all emergency responders and mountain rescue volunteers who responded to this incident." Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team Chair, Jurgen Dissman, said: "On behalf of Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team, I would like to offer our heartfelt condolences to Mahammed's family and friends during this incredibly difficult time. "We were called to assist North Wales Police with the incident, with more than 20 of our volunteers taking part in the multi-day water-based search, alongside colleagues from HM Coastguard and SARDA search dog teams. "We would like to thank North Wales Police and our partner agencies for their support throughout this response."
